BAE SYSTEMS supports programs and activities that promote the quality of life of our employees and the people who use our products and services, members of the armed forces. We also encourage the youth of America to explore the engineering sciences and career opportunities in aerospace and defense. The USO supports troops and their families through family support centers at military installations, mobile canteens, care packages, emails to deployed soldiers, and the popular entertainment tours made famous by Bob Hope.
www.uso.com Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Under the office of the Secretary of Defense, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) was established in 1972 to promote understanding and cooperation between Reserve components and civilian employers. For years, BAE SYSTEMS has shown exceptional support of military service, and we're proud to say that hundreds of our own employees are Guard and Reserve members. In 2001, BAE SYSTEMS' IEWS business received the ESGR Pro Patria award-the highest state level award-for its ongoing support of Guard and Reservists. The climax came though in November 2001 when President Bush honored BAE SYSTEMS at a White House ceremony with the Department of Defense's "Freedom Award." President Bush praised the work of the National Guard and Reserve and the employers who support them. "They could not do their vital work without the support of their employers. These employers are putting the national interests ahead of their own self interests." For more information visit www.esgr.org Discovery of Flight
www.discoveryofflight.org FIRST: For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology The goal of FIRST is to continually interest and excite new generations of students about science and technology. FIRST efforts are team efforts, involving students, teachers, communities, corporations and the government to build self-confidence, knowledge and life skills while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in science and engineering. BAE SYSTEMS participates in FIRST with teams of high school students from districts near BAE SYSTEMS offices across the nation, as well as providing primary sponsorship for the FIRST program in the Northeast US. Our Information & Electronic Warfare Systems business unit, a long-time supporter of the FIRST program, is currently in their eleventh year of assisting local area high school students in the national FIRST competition. In 2002, 24 BAE SYSTEMS volunteers worked with 80 students from the Nashua and Merrimack (N.H.) high schools to design, build, and test their competition robots. IEWS also sponsored the 2003 Granite State FIRST Regional Robotics Competition, Manchester, N.H., attracting 44 high school teams and 5,000 students and spectators. More than 200 IEWS volunteers worked the three-day event. University of Maryland Engineering and Computer Laboratories Some of BAE SYSTEMS' core values are People, Performance, Partnering, and Innovation. Those values helped bolster an already robust relationship between University of Maryland's A. James Clark School of Engineering and BAE SYSTEMS. The company partially funded four state-of-the-art instruction and research computer facilities to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. "BAE SYSTEMS has made the single most significant external contribution to our computer engineering programs," said Steven Marcus, Professor and Acting Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. http://www.ece.umd.edu/News/bae_systems_laboratories.html |
